DPP++ 11.3 available

  • Added the ability to display an harmonic armature composition guide to the trimming tool.
  • Added circular knobs to the magic rule. These knobs allows to rotate the rule around its center. This is more useful than using the previsou square knobs while maintaining the shift key pressed. The red knob that allowed to hide the rule has been removed because it's possible to hide the rule using the “Rule” button.
  • Added 3 new statistical data :
  1. WC : White Color. This number represents the percentage of the white surface (mix of the three RGB colors) in the RGB histogram. This can be used sometimes to fix white balance. Choose to configure the white balance by the color temperature, then set the color temperature value where this percentage reaches its maximum (having a maximum of white surface in the histogram reduces the chances to have a color tint in the picture). Of course this method doesn't work on all pictures.
  2. SC : Single Color. This number represents the percentage of single colors (Red alone, Blue alone, Green alone) in the RGB histogram. This can be used sometimes to fix white balance. Choose to configure the white balance by the color temperature, then set the color temperature value where this percentage reaches its minimum (having a minimum of single colors surface in the histogram reduces the chances to have a color tint in the picture). Of course this method doesn't work on all pictures. Note that this is not exactly the opposite of the previous method because in the RGB histogram you may have a mix of only 2 colors (for instance Red and Blue provide Magenta color in the RGB histogram).
  3. TS : Total surface. This number represents the total surface of the RGB histogram (except the clipped data). A maximum surface means that the RGB values are well distributed between the different levels, but this doesn't mean that the shot is necessarely well exposed.

DPP++ 11.2 available

  • This version adds support for French langage.

It detects automatically the langage used in DPP and adapts automatically the langage used in DPP++. If DPP is in French, then DPP++ switch to French, else DPP++ stays in English.

IMPORTANT : DPP++ needs the “Edit Image Window” to detects the langage of DPP. So if you are using a French version of DPP, you have to go at least once in the “Edit Image Window” to allow DPP++ switching to French.

DPP++ 6.0

RAW Histogram

Adjusting black and points in the RAW histogram rather than in the RGB histogram seems to provide better results. Unfortunately DPP doesn't provide an easy way to control these points, especially the white point where a small movement of the slider provides a strong change in the pic. That's why buttons that allow a precise control of these points have been added.

  • Buttons to control with an extreme precision the white/blacks points of the RAW histogram have been added. These points can also be controlled using the Left/Right keyboard arrows or the mouse wheel.
  • Buttons to copy/paste the white/blacks points of the RAW histogram have been added.
  • A Button to reset the the white/blacks points of the RAW histogram has been added

Statistical Data

Precise statistical Data about the RGB histogram can now be displayed :

  • Center of mass of the histogram : this information allows to know exactly where the center of mass of the histogram is located. For a normal shot taken in normal light conditions, a good exposure should place the center of mass at 127.5 (255/2). For a night shot it should be shifted at left. For snow shots, it should be shifted at right.
  • Percentage of black pixels (pixels which have their value at 0)
  • Percentage of white pixels (pixels which have their value at 255)
  • Percentage of white and black pixels (pixels which have their value at 0 or 255)

Note that the displayed percentage data are related to the channel currently displayed in the RGB histogram. For instance, if you display only the Blue channel, then the displayed percentages concern the pixels which have their blue value at 0 or 255. If you display more than one channel then the displayed percentages are related to the pixels that have their values at 0 or 255 in the 3 channels simultaneously.

Auto exposure

A function that allow to adjust automatically the brightness slider of the RAW tab has been added. This function can operate in 4 different modes:

  • Adjust the exposure so as to locate the center of mass of the histogram as near as possible to the center. This is for shots taken in normal conditions of lighting.
  • Adjust the exposure so as the percentage of black pixels is as minimum as possible. Useful for night shots.
  • Adjust the exposure so as the percentage of white pixels is as minimum as possible. Useful for snow shots for instance.
  • Adjust the exposure so as the percentage of white pixels and black pixels are both as minimum as possible. Useful in most cases. However you will probably need after that to adjust the white and black points in the RAW histogram to improve contrast.

RGB Histogram

  • Display of alerts about pixels that have their values at 0 or 255 have been added on a channel basis.
    • Example 1 : There are pixels which have value 0 in the red channel –> a small red circle is displayed at the bottom left of the RGB histogram.
    • Example 2 : In the green channel, there are a majority of pixels which have value 0 –> a small green circle is displayed at the up left of the RGB histogram.
    • Example 3 : There are pixels which have value 255 in the blue channel –> a small blue circle is displayed at the bottom right of the RGB histogram.
    • Example 4 : There are a majority of pixels which have value 255 in the three channels –> a small white circle is displayed at the up right of the RGB histogram.
  • Now you can also control the white/black point of the RGB histogram using the keyboard arrows or the mouse wheel.

Others

  • A refresh command has been added to the program menu to refresh the display if necessary.
  • Algorithm for displaying the RGB histogram has been improved. In previous version, the RGB histogram were blinking if the graphics card was not fast enough. Now the RGB histogram is updated only when necessary. So there is no more blinking.

DPP++ 5.1

  • Now you can display a Luminance Histogram inside the RAW tab. This feature is available only in the full version.
  • A checkbox has been added to the histogram. It allows to choose between an RGB histogram or a Luminance histogram.
  • Possibility of organizing the list of custom picture styles has been added. To organize the list of picture styles, drop down the list and then press CTRL+ up arrow key or CTRL + down arrow key to move the current style up or down in the list. Note : You can not change the position of standard styles.

DPP++ 5.0

  • A new function has been introduced : New list for picture styles
  • This list allows to save the custom picture styles. So it is no more necessary to clic on the browse button and to search for a custom picture style each time you want to apply a custom picture style. After adding a picture style to the list, it will be there each time you use DPP. So you will have just to clic on the list and choose the picture style you want to apply.
  • Interaction with the DPP++'s RGB histogram has been improved. Now when you clic on a channel checkbox, it displays or hides this channel. However when you SHIFT-Clic or CTRL-Clic or ALT-Clic on a channel it shows this channel alone or with other channels.
  • Better integration with DPP. Now DPP++ uses the same text font as DPP.

DPP++ 4.5

  • 2 thick bars have been added at the left and at the right of the RGB histogram. These bars duplicate respectively the levels 0 and 255 of the histogram. They allow a better visibility when clipping occurs. Thanks Boris for the suggestion.

DPP++ 4.41

  • A bug which appears sometimes when you select multiple images and work on them in the edit image window, has been corrected.

DPP++ 4.4

  • 8 more small buttons have been added to the RGB histogram. They allow to change the white and black points with a very high precision. These (arrow) buttons react only to clics. They don't react to drag and drop like the square buttons. Everytime you clic on an arrow button you move the black or white point by 1 unit. This allow a maximal control of the white/black points.
  • A reset button has been added to the histogram.
  • The Underexposure and Overexposure alert buttons have been replaced by checkboxes. This allow to know the current state of the alerts.

DPP++ 4.3

  • 2 more small buttons have been added to the RGB histogram. They allow to change the white point and the black point in the output level.
  • The aspect of the histogram has been redesigned.
  • Some minor bugs corrected.

DPP++ 4.2

  • The RGB histogram becomes interactive. Now you can change the white point and the black point in the input level directly in the RAW Tab.
  • A subtil feedback has been added to the apply raw settings buttons to know which settings button is currently applied.

DPP++ 4.1

  • No more constraints about the screen size to be able to display the new RGB histogram.
    • If the screen is large, the new RGB histogram is displayed at the bottom of the tool palette.
    • If the screen is small, the new RGB histogram is displayed instead of the small thumbnail (of course only if you have checked the “Show RGB” checkbox).
    • If the screen is very small, the new RGB histogram is displayed instead of the RAW histogram (of course only if you have checked the “Show RGB” checkbox).
  • Load Camera Settings button restored.
  • 1 bug corrected : the raw settings buttons and histogram were still visible when you hide the DPP's tool palette. Now they are also hidden when the tool palette is hidden.

DPP++ 4.0

  • DPP++ offers a new function : the display of an RGB Histogram inside the RAW tab. This allows to avoid switching continuously between the RAW tab and the RGB tab just to look at the RGB histogram. Note: The displayed RGB histogram is based on the part of the pic that is displayed at the screen. This has an advantage over the native RGB histogram of DPP because DPP displays an RGB histogram for all the pic no matter if you have define a crop area or not. With this new histogram you can see the histogram just for the crop area (or the area you have zoom in). At the opposite if you want a very precise histogram you have to calibrate your screen.
  • Added 1 checkbox to display/hide the new RGB histogram
  • Added 3 chekboxes R, G and B allow to choose which channels to display in the new histogram
  • Added 2 buttons O and U allow to display Overexposure / Underexposure alerts
  • When you click on one of the 5 buttons to apply a previously saved raw settings, you can now use either the mouse wheel or the keyboard (arrow keys) to switch between the different saved raw settings. This allow a better comparison between saved raw settings because you can keep your eyes on the image while changing raw settings.
  • Load camera settings button has been removed to save space in the user interface.
  • The program menu can be accessed by cliking on the program tray icon either with the left or right mouse button.

DPP++ 3.21

  • A small improvment in this version
  • Now, you can use the mouse wheel to switch between the 5 saved raw settings. Just clic on one of the saved raw settings and then use the mouse wheel to go to the next or previous saved raw settings. This allows to keep the eyes on the pic while switching from one raw settings to another.

DPP++ 3.2

  • No new functions in this version. Just 2 bugs corrected.
    • The first one concerns the bad display of raw settings buttons when the screen resolution is too small or when the edit window is too small. In this case the buttons are automatically resized and moved to the status bar of the edit window.
    • The second one concerns the apparition of the raw settings buttons when using the trim tool. Now the raw settings buttons appear only when the edit window is the foreground window.

DPP++ 3.1

  • New icons for the tool palette buttons
  • 3 extra buttons added to the tool palette
    • 1 button to restore the camera settings
    • 1 button to restore the last saved settings
    • 1 button to save the current settings in the RAW file
  • The new buttons work only with DPP 3.9.

DPP++ 3.0

  • DPP++ offers a new function : raw settings buttons added to allow comparison between different raw conversions in just 1 clic.
  • This new feature works only under DPP 3.9.
  • First version compatible with DPP 3.9.

DPP++ 2.2

  • Now the composition lines work also in full screen mode.
  • Now the composition lines work correctly even when the crop lines are near the image borders.
  • A faster algorithm to detecte where to draw the composition lines.
  • Some color changes in composition lines.
  • Some bugs corrected.
  • This version is now compatible with Window Seven

DPP++ 2.1

Several improvements in this new version :

  • Really really faster processing to find where to draw the composition lines ! The function doesn't requiere much time-process anymore.
  • The thickness of composition lines has been changed so the line are more visible.
  • The composition lines can be displayed even when you don't define a crop area (they just are applied to the whole image).
  • There is a small bug which appears when you define a crop area equal to the whole image. The crop area is not well detected in this case (BTW, why to define a crop area if it is equal to the whole pic ?). I will try to correct this bug in a next version.

DPP++ 2.0

  • DPP++ offers a new function : the display of composition lines.
  • 3 new checkboxes have been introduced in this version. These checkboxes allow to display composition lines in the trim tool : Gold lines / Rule of Third lines / Diagonals.
  • Be aware that these new options may be process-consuming depending on the window size of the trim tool. The smaller the size of the trim tool window, the faster this feature will be. Also do not keep these options active if the trim tool is not the foreground (active) window.

DPP++ 1.2

  • If you clic with the right mouse button on the rule, a menu appears allowing you to choose the square size and the rule thickness.

DPP++ 1.1

  • 1 bug corrected. The added buttons and checkbox were appearing also in the quick check tool window. This has been corrected.

DPP++ 1.0

  • DPP Magic Rule becomes DPP++ and offers a new function : the saving of custom aspects ratio.

DPP Magic Rule 3.51

  • Just a small correction in regard to the position of the checkbox. In the french version of DPP the checkbox was overlapping a little the “Afficher Grille” checkbox. This has been corrected in this version.

DPP Magic Rule 3.5

  • In this version, the rule disappears automatically if the Trim/Rotation tool of DPP loses the focus (ie. it is not the active window) and appears automatically when it retrieves the focus (ie. it becomes the active window).

DPP Magic Rule 3.4

  • Better integration with DPP
  • A new checkbox “Show Rule” appears now in the Trim/Rotation tool of DPP. Use this checkbox to Show or Hide the rule.
  • The program menu appear now when you left-clic on the program tray icon. A right-clic does nothing.

DPP Magic Rule 3.3

  • This version starts DPP automatically if it is found.

DPP Magic Rule 3.2

  • This version is now compatible with Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP.

DPP Magic Rule 3.1

  • Now the rule appears only when the trimming/Rotation tool of DPP is started and disappears automatically when it is closed.
  • A knob is added to the center of the rule. It allows to move the whole rule in only one mouvement.
  • A SHIFT-clic on the white squares allows to rotate the rule around its center

DPP Magic Rule 3.0

  • Full integration with DPP !!! No need to paste anything in DPP anymore. Just clic on the green square and the rotation is applied immediatly.
  • The rule has now 3 squares in each side. The whites to adjust the rule. The greens to apply the rotation. The reds to hide the rule.

DPP Magic Rule 2.0

  • The program acts now as a tool palette. This means that no window, no title bar, no new button in the task bar, appears. Only the rule appears.
  • A new icon is added to the tray area (near the windows clock).
  • Clic with the left mouse button on this tray icon to hide/show the rule.
  • Clic with the right mouse button on this tray icon to make the program menu appear (Quit, Help, About, etc.)

DPP Magic Rule 1.4

  • 1 bug corrected.
  • Different optimisations
  • Colors changes

DPP Magic Rule 1.3

  • Now the program window stays completely transparent even when you drag the line.

DPP Magic Rule 1.2

  • Use of clipboard : now the angle value is directly copied to the clipboard. So you don't have to use the keyboard to enter the value in DPP. After setting the horizon line, clic with the right mouse button on the angle field in DPP. A menu appear, choose “paste”. Finally clic on one of the arrow near the angle field to activate the rotation.

DPP Magic Rule 1.1

  • Better integration with DPP
  • The program window is now completely transparent. This allows to work with both windows (DPP an Magic Rule) simultaneously
  • The resulted angle is now displayed in the window titlebar
  • The program start automatically with a maximized window

DPP Magic Rule 1.0

  • Initial Version
